First Round of Main Draw Wraps Up

FORT WORTH, Texas (August 5, 2015) – Day five brought an end to the first round of the main draw of singles and doubles at the 2015 Holt Jeep $10K Fort Worth Women’s Pro Circuit Event on Wednesday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU.

The top two seeded doubles pairs in the draw could not make it out of the first round, as the No. 1 seed of Maria-Fernanda Alves of Brazil and Naomi Totka of Hungary dropped a straight-set loss to Nicole Collie and Zoe Hives of Australia, 6-3, 6-4. Brynn Boren and Amy Zhu of the United States were able to shut down the No. 2 seed of Andie K. Daniell of the United States and Renata Zarazua of Mexico, 7-6(4), 6-2.

Alves started the day out with a big win by taking out the No. 7 seed in the singles draw, Alexandra Morozova of the United States, 6-0, 6-4 and move into the second round. Alves will have to face the lucky loser in the draw, Ines Karmes Vias of the United States, in the second batch of matches.

The collegiate players still in the draw also found success on Wednesday, as future Illinois freshman Vias defeated Ashley Kratzer, 6-4, 6-4 and incoming Duke freshman Jessica Ho defeated Zhu, 7-6(6), 6-2.

Florida sophomore Josie Kuhlman of the United States made quick work of Julia Jones of the United States, 6-2, 6-3, while Vanderbilt senior Frances Altick of the United States was able to easily handle Anastasia Evgenyevna Nefedova of Russia, 6-2, 6-2.

Due to a heat advisory, matches on the Bernard J. ‘Tut’ Bartzen Varsity Courts will begin at 8 a.m., on Thursday.

The Holt Jeep Women’s $10K USTA Pro Circuit event will continue to be held at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU until Sunday, Aug. 9. Professional athletes from around the world will be competing for $10,000 in prize money, as well as valuable WTA Tour Ranking points.
