FORT WORTH, Texas (August 8, 2015) – The singles final at the Holt Jeep $10K Fort Worth Women’s Pro Circuit Event will feature two qualifiers at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU on Sunday.
Vanderbilt senior Frances Altick of the United States was able to down the final seeded player in the draw, No. 6 Giuliana Olmos of Mexico, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to be the first qualifier this year to make the finals.
Altick will be joined by fellow qualifier Ulrikke Eikeri of Norway who easily handled Maria-Fernanda Alves of Brazil, 6-1, 6-2. Eikeri, a former world ranked player of No. 208, has only gone to a third set once in the whole tournament from qualifying through the main draw.
Altick and Eikeri will faceoff starting at 9 a.m., in the championship match that will take place on the Bernard J. ‘Tut’ Bartzen Varsity Courts on Sunday.
Saturday also featured the doubles final, as four current collegiate players squared off for the crown. Florida sophomore Josie Kuhlman and Cal junior Maegan Manasse were up against Olmos, a senior at USC, and Duke freshman Jessica Ho.
The final started with a battle back and forth as neither pair could control serve, as each team was broken twice to start the match. The duos got back on track and evened out the match at 4-4, before Kuhlman and Manasse were able to break serve and then hold to win the first set 6-4.
The second set was another even fight, as both teams held serve through the first six games. Tied at 3-3 and down 40-15, Kuhlman and Manasse fought back to break Olmos and Ho and then finished out the match by holding serve twice to win the crown in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The Holt Jeep Women’s $10K USTA Pro Circuit event will continue to be held at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU until Sunday, Aug. 9. Professional athletes from around the world will be competing for $10,000 in prize money, as well as valuable WTA Tour Ranking points.
