FORT WORTH, Texas (July 29, 2019) – With the first round of qualifying in the books, the Fort Worth Pro Women’s Tennis Classic looks forward to the beginning of main draw play. The main draw was announced today, with two members of the hometown TCU women’s tennis team making the cut, along with two Top 300 ranked players on the WTA rankings.
Former Texas Tech standout and clay court specialist, Gabriela Talaba, No. 340 in the world, enters play as the No. 1 seed. She is in search of her first ITF tournament victory this season as she also teams up with Chieh-Yu Hsu to form the No. 1 seed in the doubles tournament.
Catherine Harrison, a UCLA product, enters as the No. 2 seeded singles player and the No. 373 ranked player in the world. She will team up with TCU women’s tennis player Kate Paulus in the doubles tournament. Paulus will also participate in singles play, where she will battle Nagi Hanatani, the No. 488 ranked player out of Japan.
Lastly, TCU women’s tennis rising sophomore Ellie Douglas earned her way into the main draw where she will face Ole Miss graduate Arianne Hartono, ranked No. 521 in the world.
In qualifying action, 12 of the 16 seeded players advanced to the second round, headlined by top-seeded Salome Devidze, from Georgia, advancing to the second round. She and the rest of the remaining qualifyers will finish out their round tomorrow morning in an attempt to make it into the main draw later in the day.
Qualifiers have had success at the Fort Worth Pro Women’s Tennis Classic, since the tournament was promoted to an ITF 25k tournament in 2016, a qualifier has moved on to win the main draw singles title in two of three years.
